What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture consists of the gentle insertion and manipulation of fine, filiform needles into specific points on the body to ease pain and has shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health concerns. Most of these points are located along meridians(or pathways) in which our bodies Qi, or vital energy, flow. There are over 400 acupuncture points on the body.  Depending on the treatment style and area of the body, needles may barely penetrate the skin or they may be inserted deep at points along these meridians with each point affecting a different part of your body.

How does Acupuncture work?

There are a number of schools of thought explaining the mechanisms behind Acupuncture. We do know is that Acupuncture promotes the natural healing process by having specific effects at designated Acupuncture points.  Through these actions, healing takes places through your body’s innate healing capacity.

Is Acupuncture safe?

Yes. Acupuncture needles are disposable and for single use only. In addition to needle safety, acupuncture has no known dangerous side effects.  There are small chances of bruising, bleeding and muscle spasms.

Considering the thousands of years of Acupuncture use, Acupuncture is considered one of the safest medical procedures.
